Mediation Update

My Father spent 7 1/2 hours in mediation today with his lawyer and a team of lawyers from Spring Arbor University. Mediation is to resume on Monday. Most of the other goings on of the mediation are kept in confidence (that's how these things go).

Julie has demonstrated tremendous courage and inner strength that will eventually help many people understand the vitality of the human spirit. Julie's struggles precipitated a story in today's Wall Street Journal that may be the first in the history of that major business publication on the plight of the transgendered. Julie's experience will help many others by demonstrating that transgendered individuals are ordinary people who, sadly, require protections under law. Her experience will help corporations better understand the needs of their transgendered associates. Just as Ms Hopkins' clash with Price Waterhouse eventually helped many people, I am convinced that Julie's efforts will be far more profound than anyone can anticipate.

Margaret- Thank you for your kind words. While I have become a reluctant activist and certainly don’t see myself as a standard bearer. I am one person telling my story and trying to help people understand transgender issues and work towards a safe just world which includes TG people. Now that I have started, I will continue to try and articulate TG issues and concerns with as much energy as I can muster whenever the opportunity presents itself. I expect to meet with state legislators this Spring and have been asked to consider testifying before Congress. By God’s grace I hope to add whatever I can to the calls for justice and equal treatment . . . especially in the body of Christ. I genuinely hope and pray that more will be encouraged to tell their stories.

I have recent many calls from students with friends or family members dealing with transgender issues. It is a greater concern than many realize, in part, due to the worries of many about shame or loss of income or even violence if they are known for who they are. I am hoping the day will come when those fears are eradicated. Thanks again for your encouraging and kind words.

Oops. That last paragraph should begin with "I have recently received . . . "

I hate these senior moments!

Isn't it true? The one place you shouldn't have to fight for justice is the body of Christ...
